Last night we went to the Winter Solstice Pageant. It was held in a Unitarian church and put on by Circle Sanctuary as an interfaith solstice. The church was a beautiful building.
The pageant was a ton of fun. They had people dressed as different characters from Yule myths around the world and they told a short story about each of them. We had Santa, Krampus, Lucia, Holda and Bertcha and several others. The 3 wise men were mentioned and A Child is Born was sung. There was also a group that did a yoga/dance presentation about balance.
Several different traditional Christmas carols were sung, with the crowd singing along on the chorus, a few Yule songs were sung, and there was a group meditation for healing ourselves and the world. It ended with a drum group doing an awesome set of songs while yellow balloons were bounced through the crowd and people danced with yellow streamers. Then we all got up to dance and laugh and get our sprig of mistletoe to take home.
The hubby and I had a great time and then we stopped by the table to purchase a few small prayer candles. We’ll be using them in our own Yule tradition. Our plan is to write wishes on them for the coming year and then burn them.
I ran into a few different people I knew and we had a good time catching up. I feel much more into the holiday spirit now! We will be going back next year for sure.
Tonight we plan to drive around and look at Christmas lights and then tomorrow go to a park where a bonfire will be lit for the solstice. A busy weekend, but one filled with things that fill us with joy.
